EuroBonus award flights to Japan's cherry blossom 2027
Cherry blossom is Japan's most popular season, and in 2027 it overlaps with Easter (Easter Sunday is 28 March). Seats have been bookable since late April 2026, because SAS releases award seats up to 330 days before departure - so it pays to search now.
When the blossom usually comes
- In Tokyo, Kyoto and Osaka the blossom usually peaks in late March or early April. Further north it comes later - in Hokkaido mostly in late April or May.
- The Japanese forecasts come out over the winter and move with the weather, so book with a few days' margin either side.
- Departing 20 March 2027 was bookable from 24 April 2026, and departing 10 April 2027 from 15 May 2026.
What it costs in points
From SAS's point tables (read 4 October 2026), per person, before taxes and fees:
- SAS's own flights to or from Asia: 30,000 points in economy, 45,000 in premium and 60,000 in business, one way.
- Partner flights to Central, East and South Asia: 90,000 points in economy, 135,000 in premium economy and 180,000 in business for a round trip; one way costs 60% of that.
- Work out your own balance in the points calculator.
How to find the seats
- Search the whole period at once: "Japan" in Dotflight covers Tokyo Haneda, Tokyo Narita and Osaka Kansai in one scan. A first departure on 20 March, a 2-week search window and trips of 10-18 nights cover departures up to 2 April.
- Ways there: SAS's own flights from Copenhagen where they run, KLM and Air France via Amsterdam and Paris, or partners through other Asian hubs, for example Korean Air via Seoul.
- Into Tokyo and home from Osaka? Two one-ways cost 20% more than a round trip; SAS customer service can book the return from Osaka.
- Business out and premium economy or economy back saves a lot of points on a long trip.
- Children aged 2-11 pay 50% of the points on SAS's own flights. On partner flights children cost the same points as adults.
- Found something? Book it straight away. SAS lets you cancel free within 24 hours.
- Full? Save the search as an alert - Dotflight tells you when seats turn up.
